JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Salvation Army reports their 2020 Red Kettle Campaign was a resounding success.

“Donors stepped up in a big way last month to rescue Christmas for the Salvation Army of Stutsman County,” Major Judy Lowder stated. “With their help we raised more than $192,000 through its red kettles, mailed in donations and online support, exceeding its goal of $151,000.”

Despite the challenges faced by people, their families, and businesses, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Major Lowder says the community rallied in support of The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.

“In a year of unprecedented need, we expected a possible 50% decrease in donations. Instead, because of your support, we were able to exceed our goal and continue to provide life-saving assistance to our struggling neighbors. We are thankful to all those who supported the campaign and for enabling The Salvation Army to continue its mission of meeting human needs,” Major Lowder added.

The Salvation Army once again had a friendly competition with the participating service clubs.

“These clubs, especially Kiwanis, are a shining example of service in our community,” Lowder said. The winner this year is the Jamestown Kiwanis Club, who raised over $15,873.00. Second place was the Rotary with $7,836.09, third place was Optimist with $2,416.28.

The other top ringers are JHS National Honors Society with $3,169.73, UJ Women’s Volleyball Team collected $4,284.12 and Duane and Cindy Anwiler brought in $16,139.43.

These donations support a variety of programs and services including food, rent assistance, hygiene kits and Christmas assistance.

“There is still more to do, and through your donation, we will continue to serve the least, the last, and the lost,” Major Lowder added.
