VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City used a very balanced offense and a strong second half for a 75-46 win over Fargo North at the Hi-Liner Activity Center Tuesday night in girls basketball.

The 75 points is a season high for Valley City as eight different players scored for the Hi-Liners and six of those had at least eight points.

North lead most of the first half following a three-pointer by Emily Skalicky with 16:22 to go in the first half to take a 5-4 lead. That lead would expand to five at 9-4 after Grace Miller’s inside bucket banked in to with 14:48 to go in the half.

The Spartans would have a five point lead on a couple more occasions in the half. The last came after Miller scored with 4:20 remaining to make it 26-21. But the Hi-Liners would come back and take the lead back for good at 27-26 on two free throws by Dylann Diegel with 2:25 remaining. The Hi-Liners would end the half on an 11-0 run to lead 32-26 at the break.

Valley City opened up a 17 point lead with a 17-6 run to start the second half and make it 49-32. North would get to within 11 at 51-40 with an 8-2 run but that was as close as the Spartans would get the rest of the game.

The Hi-Liners ended the game outscoring North  24-6 for the 29 point win. It is the first time this season the Hi-Liners have won back-to-back games.

Jadyn Dieterle had another stat sheet filler game with 21 points, five rebounds, seven assists and nine steals. Peyton Pederson had 13 points and a game high nine rebounds. Brooke Eggermont had 10 points and seven rebounds. Dylann Diegel had nine points, Samantha Hatcher had eight and Tesa Olson had eight.

North was led by Maggie Benson with 15 points and six rebounds. Emily Skalicky had 11 points and Arden Faulkner chipped in 10.

Valley City improves to 3-9 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 5-7 overall. Fargo North falls to 1-10 overall and in the EDC.

The Hi-Liners will travel to Fargo to face Davies on Friday. North will host Moorhead on Thursday.
