ABERDEEN, S.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State women’s basketball team overcame a gradual start to finish with a road victory over Presentation College Saturday, 71-45.

Four Vikings scored in double figures Saturday including 13 points each from Allie Critchley and Dani SchwankeTaryn Dieterle and Adriana Torres each chipped in 12 points for the Vikings. Macey Kvilvang pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while Dieterle, Meredith Dumas, and Andranae Powns each grabbed six.

Valley City State improves to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the NSAA. Presentation falls to 1-16 overall and 0-6 in the North Star.

It was a slow start Saturday as the Vikings held a narrow 13-10 lead after the first quarter. Leading by six points with 3:30 until halftime, a bucket from Dieterle sent Valley City State on a 14-8 run to hold a 33-23 advantage at the buzzer.

Presentation opened the second half holding the Vikings scoreless over the first 3:20, until a basket from Andranae Powns sparked a Viking rally to close out the quarter on a 21-10 run. The Vikings held the Saints to just eight points in the fourth quarter to finish with the 26-point win.

Valley City State shot 37 percent from the field (23-62), 44 percent on three-pointers (7-16), and 90 percent on free throws (18-20). Presentation shot 32 percent from the field (17-54), 20 percent on three-pointers (3-15), and 80 percent from the free throw line (8-10).

Valley City State held a 42-27 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive boards.

Presentation’s Aaliyah Hull recorded a double double Saturday with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints.

UP NEXT: Valley City State hosts Presentation on Friday, Jan. 29 to kick off the second half of the conference schedule. Women will tip at 5:30 p.m. and men are scheduled to play at 7:30 p.m.
