VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Maya Metcalf scored 19 points in the first half and West Fargo Sheyenne used a 14-4 run to take a seven point lead, a lead they won’t not lose in a 73-66 win over Valley City in Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball Friday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

Valley City jumped out to a 6-1 lead but the lead never got bigger than that for the Hi-Liners. The game would be tied at 9, 13, 15, 20 and 22.

Valley City took its last lead at 24-22 on Tesa Olson’s bucket with 2:36 remaining in the half. That’s when the Mustangs went on a 9-0 run to open up a 31-24 lead. They would take the lead for good at 26-24 on Alivia Manson’s three pointer with 2:23 to go in the first half. That lead was at seven 31-24, when Samantha Hatcher hit a three pointer from the left corner with 34 seconds left to make it 31-27. But Jadyn Feist and Maya Metcalf executed a perfect two person fast break to score at the horn to make it 33-27 at the half.

Valley City would get to within two points on three occasions early in the second half, the last time was on a bucket inside by Brooke Eggermont with 14:21 remaining in the half but they would get no closer. The lead stayed between three and seven points for most of the rest of the game with a brief eight point lead by Sheyenne at 72-64 when Peyton Breidenbach hit one of two free throws with 49 seconds remaining.

Maya Metcalf led the Mustangs with 28 points and added nine rebounds. Jadyn Feist had the double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Alivia Manson had five three pointers and ended with 15 points. Feist also had a team high four assists.

Brooke Eggermont led four Hi-Liners in double figures with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Dylann Diegel had 13 points and six boards. Peyton Pederson had 13 points and five rebounds and Jadyn Dieterle chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

Valley City is now 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the Eastern Dakota Conference. Sheyenne, winners of six of their last seven games, improves to 6-4 overall and in the EDC.
