JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has drafted and approved a letter in support of the James River Valley Library System (JRVLS).

The approval came during the first council meeting of 2021 Monday evening.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich reports that the letter would lend the city’s support as the library saves funds for possible expansion and relocation in the future.

“With the understanding that this is not an authorization to proceed, but rather support for the library’s plan,” the letter specifies.

The library’s plan would be to save funds to purchase property for a new location. If an opportunity presented itself for the library to purchase property through saved-up funds, they would first need authorization from the City and County.

“Knowing that with a bare ground purchase or a purchase of an existing structure, remodeling or building a library would be a major undertaking, this would be done without authorization to proceed from the City and County,” the letter goes on to explain.

The council unanimously approved the letter of support.

Later discussion was held on the temporary moratorium pertaining to the possession of alcohol on public right-of-way. This includes extending the moratorium on off-sale liquor sold with food by on-sale liquor license holders.

The resolution was passed unanimously.
