FARGO, N.D. December 17, 2020 – North Dakota growers, dealers, and processors held 16.1 million cwt of potatoes in storage on December 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Current stocks represent 70% of the 2020 production. Total stocks are defined as all potatoes on hand, regardless of use, including those that will be lost through future shrinkage and dumping.

Comparing stocks by type, Russets accounted for 52% of the total, up from 1% in 2019. Round whites were 27% of the total, up from 3% in 2019. Long whites were 2% of the total.  Reds, at 16% of total stocks, were down 4% from 2019. Yellows were 3% of the total.
