JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown man has been arrested and is facing charges after a Saturday night altercation at the Two Rivers Inn West Motel.
Jamestown Police Major Justin Blinsky reports the department had received a 911 call just after 10 PM Saturday night. Officers responded to verify no emergency, to which it was reported to have been a misdial.
“It was determined the individuals involved were in a relationship and were having an argument, but no physical violence occurred,” Major Blinsky reported.
Just before 10:45 PM, officers were dispatched to the hotel again to a report of Domestic Assault. The victim informed police she had been punched in the face by a male suspect, who she is in a domestic relationship with and the phone call was abruptly disconnected.
“The individuals involved were the same from the earlier incident,” Major Blinsky stated.
Officers arrived to contact the male suspect, who opened the door to the lobby area of the motel. The suspect was asked to step into the motel office, but he refused and attempted to close the door. Officers attempted to stop the suspect, who then turned around and brandished a large kitchen knife towards officers.
After displaying the knife, the man tripped over the doorway and fell, landing outside on the pavement of the parking lot. The knife became dislodged, where an officer attempted to retrieve it. The suspect rolled over and gained control again, ignoring commands from officers to drop the knife.
“After several additional commands, the suspect told officers they would have to shoot him and he attempted to get up from the ground,” Major Blinsky reported. “An officer successfully deployed his taser, but the knife couldn’t be taken from the suspect.”
The man was tased a second time, causing the suspect to drop the knife, where officers then gained control and took him into custody.
The man has been identified as 50 year-old Daniel Edwin Kostecky of Jamestown. He has been arrested for suspicion of Simple Assault and terrorizing. He was taken to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation and later to another facility for further evaluation.
Formal charges are pending with the Stutsman County State’s Attorney Office.
