VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The following is a report from District 24 State Representative Dwight Kiefert.

“Preparations are under way for the next Legislative Session. I have again been placed on the Agriculture and Human Services Committees. Preparations have been made for remote participation to try and limit the spread of the COVID 19 virus. Office space in the Capitol is also being prepared to social distance.

I would like to take this time to focus on our own community. We have many people who are struggling financially with all that’s been happening with our pandemic situation. I am very concerned that some in our community are not aware of services available to help them.

If I could share my daughters experience, she was in line at the grocery store checkout line, when she witnessed an elderly lady’s card was rejected to pay for her groceries. The lady left her groceries and left the store. Our daughter told the checkout person that she would pay for the ladies groceries. She took the bag out to the lady in the parking lot and the lady started crying when she gave her the groceries. The lady said she didn’t know what she was going to have for supper.

We have the Food Pantry and Great Plains Food Bank to name a few of the services to help people in need. What I’m asking is to please be aware of people around you that might need help and don’t know where to turn. For some if their power is disconnected it could become a life threatening situation.”

Have a Merry Christmas
