JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Jamestown reports that beginning Monday, December 7th, there will be road and lane closures in three areas of town for the riverbank restoration project work.

The city reports that the intersection of 1st Avenue N and 13th Street NW, 1st Avenue N and 10th Street NW (Nickeus Park Loop Road closed to through traffic), and 11th St NW from the intersection of 4th Avenue NW along the road to Nickeus Park to the intersection of 2nd Avenue NW and 10th Street NW will be affected.

Construction is estimated to continue through around January 21st, 2021.

In July, the city of Jamestown approved the project to help stabilize banks in six specified areas along the James River. Ben Aaseth is the lead engineer with Interstate Engineering.

Because of environmental restrictions on the project, Aaseth stated some of the work would have to be done this winter.

A benefit cost analysis was conducted through FEMA to show the importance of doing the project. Aaseth pointed out the cost of damages that could occur if they didn’t doing the project would far outweigh the cost of going through with it.

The committee unanimously approved the project with a city cost share of $237,000.
