JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown could soon have its new ladder truck.
During the Jamestown Police & Fire Committee meeting, Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther reported that they could see the new ladder truck delivered this week or next.
Reuther also reports that training is currently suspended at this time due to COVID-19.
He added they have also postponed inspections, but will conduct those by appointment only. He says service to the community will continue as usual.
For the Jamestown Police Department, Chief Scott Edinger brought up the consideration of changing the trial period for licensed officers from six months to a year.
Edinger says this doesn’t allow them to observe these officers and how they’ll be on their own within the city. Edinger says extending the trial period will allow them to get past the Academy and field training.
Edinger says it’s not often an officer “won’t work out.”
The committee voted to recommend changing the trial period beginning January 2021.
In other police department news, Chief Edinger says they have filled all open positions in the department through appointments and promotions. This includes a new School Resource Officer for the Jamestown Public School District.
