JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Tourism Executive Director Searle Swedlund reports that they have been identifying donated artifacts and items at the Frontier Village.
It’s been estimated around 1,200 items have been catalogued at the site over the summer. Swedlund says they’ve identified 60% of the ownership or how it’s connected to the Frontier Village and region.
Swedlund informed the Tourism Executive Board that they would begin the abandoned property process for some of the artifacts and ownership of that property.
Swedlund added that everything in the process has been positive and giving those artifacts another home would be beneficial for them.
Along with that, he says they’ve removed some buildings they believe were not repairable or didn’t align with the direction they wanted to take the Frontier Village.
Swedlund says the Fire Hall building was removed this last week, but says they have some exciting ideas for the new space it could be.
With these changes to the historic site, Swedlund pointed out that “new and better things” would not be possible unless some changes were made and more space was created.
Swedlund says they’ll continue working on a plan as they mold the Frontier Village for future growth.
