VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2020 Valley City High School Hi-Liner Student Congress team was fortunate to be named the runners-up (2nd place) at the 2020 State Student Congress Tournament held at the Capital Building in Bismarck on Thursday, November 5th. They finished 8 points behind team champions West Fargo Sheyenne and ahead of the other 15 teams in attendance.
This 2nd place finish is the highest finish for the Hi-Liners at Student Congress since the 1980’s. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, teams were only allowed 7 competitors at the state tournament, compared to the usual 18 that make up a full roster at the state tournament.
Two Hi-Liner speakers were named champions: Luke Plagens (House 1) and Madi Klabo (House 5). Six of the 7 Hi-Liner speakers at the tournament placed or were elected Presiding Officer for their respective chambers. Valley City High School Student Congress is coached by Nick Lee (Head Coach) and Abby Ingstad(Assistant Coach).

Senate- Lillian Kiefert (5th)
House 1- Luke Plagens (1st– Champion)
House 2- Maisie Leick (4th)
House 3- Ariana Abrahamson (2nd)
House 5- Abigail Redfearn (2nd)
House 5- Madi Klabo (Presiding Officer- Champion)
