Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinals defeated Napoleon-GS (NGS) 3-1 (28-26, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18) in the opening round of the Region 3 volleyball tournament. The Imperials gave the Cardinals a tough match and had a chance to be up 2 sets to 0, but a late rally in the opening set led the Cardinals to a 28-26 win. The Imperials were paced by Kylie Breidenback (5’6 junior OH) with a match high 20 kills and Ashley Schmitt (5’8 junior OH) with 19 kills, 2 aces, and a match high 55 digs. Sophie Ketterling (5’2 sophomore libero) had a great game defensively adding a match high 55 digs, tied with Schmitt.
Carrington had a balanced offensive attack led by Hannah Hagel (5’11 senior OH) and Lexus Page (5’7 senior OH) with a team high 14 kills. Hagel and Page both added 36 digs, and Hagel added a match high 3 stuff blocks. Sydnie Grager (6′ junior MH) added 13 kills and a match high 3 stuff blocks. Breanna Mittleider had a team high 41 digs for the Cards. Tessa Page had a match high 37 assists. NGS finishes the season with a 5-8 overall record and Carrington improves to 14-4 and will host the South Border Mustangs on Thursday night (November 12th) at 7:00 P.M.. The match will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com with the pregame starting around 6:30 P.M.
