SIOUX CITY, I.A. (jimmiepride.com) – Cade Torgerson (JR/Billings, Mont.) threw two first-half touchdown passes to help lead the University of Jamestown football team to a 17-10 win over Briar Cliff University Saturday afternoon.
Jamestown (1-5 overall, 1-5 Great Plains Athletic Conference) won its third straight game over the Chargers dating back to 2018.
Torgerson and Javon Bowie (JR/Sacramento, Calif.) connected on a 7-yard scoring pass with 9:17 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
With seven seconds left in the first half and UJ holding a 7-3 lead, Torgerson found Micah Madyun (FR/Anoka, Minn.) from 13 yards out, and the Izaak Myles (JR/Apple Valley, Calif.) extra point made it 14-3 going into halftime.
The Chargers made it 14-10 on a one-yard run by Cayden Mitchell with 5:51 left in the third quarter.
UJ answered on the next drive, getting a 32-yard field goal from Myles to make it 17-10 with 3:04 left in the third.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
Torgerson finished 16-of-29 passing for 136 yards. He also carried 14 times for 71 yards to lead the rushing attack.
Jeremy Williams (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) caught five passes for 22 yards while Madyun and Josiah Cage (JR/Bloomington, Minn.) both had three catches.
Brooks Canfield (SO/Tempe, Ariz.) and Aaron Mack (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) had nine total tackles to lead the defense. Levi Scriber, Blake Snyder (JR/Cokato, Minn.), and Mitchell Swartz (JR/Peyton, Colo.) each had a sack. Cedric Terry (SR/Minneapolis, Minn.) and Jeremy Hautau (JR/Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) were credited with pass breakups.
UJ’s defense allowed Briar Cliff to convert just one of 13 third downs. The Jimmies outgained the Chargers 261-257 and were 3-for-3 in the red zone (2 TD, 1 FG).
Jamestown hosts Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bismarck at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
