JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A program called No Excuses is entering its fifth year in 2020 and continues to eliminate barriers for women’s breast screenings.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98%.
Funded by R.M. Stoudt’s annual Running of the Pink, No Excuses features a team up between the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Central Valley Health, and Women’s Way.
JRMC Radiology Manager Jason Schaffer says the No Excuses program has helped more than 100 women receive 3D mammograms and preventative services they otherwise wouldn’t have due to time, finances, transportation, or lack of coverage.
Marketing Manager Katie Ryan-Anderson says the growth has been great to see as they continue to remove barriers.
She added that No Excuses is also for more than just mammograms.
When it comes to these screenings, Schaffer says there are some things to keep in mind.
No Excuses is set for three days this year including:
Thursday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon
