LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – LaMoure/Litchville-Marion knew if they were goong to advance to the Region 3 tournament, they needed to get past a shorthanded Griggs/Midkota Titan team that was missing seven players, and three starters. Mission accomplished, but not without a fight.
The Loboes won 25-15, 25-20, 25-16. After ties at 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, LLM scored five straight points to take a 11-6 lead and they never looked back with a 25-14 in the first set.
The second set saw the Titans take a 7-4 lead with a five point run early on. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion would score the next six points to take a 10-7 lead. The two teams would alternate points for several volleys until the Lobooes took a 20-13 lead. But Griggs/Midkota would go on a 7-1 run to get with in 21-20, but the Loboes would score the last four points to win the set 25-20.
The third set would see LLM take the lead early, and never give it up. But again, the Titans would battle to with in 13-12 with an 8-2 run, but they never could tie it or take the lead as the Loboes won 25-16.
Heidi Steffes led the Loboes offense with 12 kills. Ashlyn Rode had nine, Molly Musland added seven and Nateal Rodin chipped in four. Rose Wendel had 15 assists and Katrina Just added 10. Kierra Weight was tough at the service line with eight aces. Rodin had three as the Loboes had 16 total aces as a team. Risa Rassmusson led the defense with 10 digs, Rodin had seven and Rose Wendel added six.
Jenna Larson led the Titan offense with nine kills. Kennedy Hannesson had six. And Medora Brandner had 15 assists.
LaMoure/Litchville-Marion improves to 12-7 and will head to the Region 3 tournament as the number three seed from District 5. They will travel to the District 6 runner-up next Tuesday in the Region 3 quarterfinals.
Griggs/Midkota ends the season at 4-13.
