LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Barnes County North gave LaMoure/Litchville-Marion all they could handle, but in the end the Loboes came out with a 3-1 win in the opening round of the District 5 Volleyball tournament. The Loboes won 25-11, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21.
In the first set, the Loboes jumped out to a 11-2 lead to start things and never looked back on the way to a 25-11 win
The Bison came out in the second set and went toe-to-toe with the third seeded Loboes. The set was tied at 3 and 4, then the Bison scored four straight to take a 7-4 lead. But the Loboes would counter that with a six point run to make it 10-7. The Bison would go on a 7-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. But the leap frog continued with LLM going on a 5-1 run to take the lead back at 16-15. The set would be tied at 16, 20 and 21 before the Bison scored the four of the last five points for a 25-22 win.
The third set was very similar to the first set. The Loboes got off to a good start, taking a 6-2 lead. The would expand that lead to 13-4 before Barnes County North took a timeout. It was back and forth from there before the Loboes pulled away for a 25-13 win
The fourth set was very similar to the second set. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion scored the first three points. But Barnes County North would go on a 9-2 run to take a 9-5 lead. Lobo head coach Jill Dunn took a timeout, and her team responded after the timeout. They would score the first five points to take a 10-9 lead. The two teams would alternate the next 11 points with Barnes County North tying the set at 15. The set would be tied at 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. With the set tied at 19, LaMoure/Litchville-Marion would score six of the last seven points for a 25-21 win.
Heidi Steffes led the Loboes with 12 kills. Nateal Rodin had nine and Molly Musland and Ashlyn Rode had six each. Rose Wendel had 19 assists to lead the Loboes and Katrina Just added seven.
Ashley McFadgen led the Bison with 14 kills. Grace Mueller had five. Hanna Wieland had 14 assists and Grace Mueller added a couple of blocks.
LaMoure/Litchville-Marion improves to 11-6 overall and will travel to Carrington with a berth in the Region 3 tournament at stake. Barnes County North falls to 6-11 and will host Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier on Friday night in an elimination match.
The LLM an Carrington match will be on KDAK, the BCN/EKM match will be on 98.3 Thunder Country.
