COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2020 District 5 volleyball tournament kicked off Thursday night with three matches going on at the same time at three different locations due to Covid-19 concerns. In one of the matches and in their first year as a coop, the Titans of Griggs/Midkota were swept by the Ellendale Cardinals 3-0 (28-26, 25-15, 25-18). The number four seeded GM Titans drop to 4-12 overall, the number five seeded Cardinals improve to 5-10 overall.

The Titans led for most of the first set and at one point 23-16, but the Cardinals came back to tie the contest at 24, 25 and 26 and eventually pulled out the victory 28-26. For the most part, Ellendale controlled set two and three, there were two ties in set two and three in set three. The unofficial stats had Ellendale’s Senior Morgan Fischer with a match high 10 kills, she also had two aces and three stuff blocks. Leading the way for GM was Junior Jenna Larson with nine kills, Junior Madison Feiring added four aces for the Titans. The GM Titans were missing several players and coaches as they were in quarantine.
