JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Severe Winter Weather Awareness Week was created to prepare residents for the different types of weather events and terminology associated with the season.
Stutsman County Emergency Manager and 911 Coordinator Jerry Bergquist says the fall weather was very welcomed, but the quick transition into winter brings the season into focus.
Bergquist says there are many different types of weather events that come with winter in North Dakota. He says this years winter has come around a lot differently than it did in 2019.
He added that it’s also important to know the different terminology used when it comes to winter storms. He used the recent storm to explain the difference between a watch, advisory, and warning.
Bergquist says now is the time to begin making preparations. This includes
-Making A Plan
-Building An Emergency Supply Kit
-Keeping An Emergency Kit in Your Car
-Winterizing Your Home
-Being Aware of Travel Alerts and Advisors
