OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Garret Meehl had a hand in all five touchdowns for Oakes as the Tornadoes advanced in the Class 11-A Football playoffs with a 36-0 win over Carrington Saturday afternoon in Oakes.
The senior quarterback returned punt for a score. Threw three touchdown passes and caught one. Plus he was 4 for 4 on extra points and threw a two-point conversion pass.
He would start the scoring with a 63 yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. His extra point made it 7-0 Tornadoes.
In the second quarter, he threw touchdown passes of 11 yards to aMarc Seyer and 13 yards to Joey Heim. His two extra points made it 21-0 at the break.
In the third quarter, he hit Heim for a 16 yard touchdown pass. Then David Schmitz with the two-point conversion. Ashton Biesterfeld hit Meehl with a 35 yard touchdown strike to cap the scoring.
The Tornadoes will travel to top seed and defending state champ Langdon Area/Edmore-Munich next Saturday in the state quarterfinals. Kickoff time is set for 1pm and can be heard on 1220AM/95.9FM KDDR The Tornado and newsdakota.com.
