CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The month is designated to remind everyone that it exists and to help equip us with the skills and knowledge to recognize it.
Nicole Threadgold, CHI St. Alexius Health Foundation Director and Marketing Coordinator, says many people nationally will experience some form of domestic violence.
Threadgold added that amid the pandemic, they’re seeing complications and added domestic violence all over.
Threadgold says with the pandemic, there has been an increase in hotline calls, protection order requests, and law enforcement calls for services related to domestic violence.
She says prior to COVID-19, a person could leave a dangerous situation, file a protective order, and receive ready access services.
As part of the month, CHI associates are wearing purple pins to honor survivors of domestic violence, leading a social awareness campaign, displaying information on where to get help for domestic violence, participating in Purple Thursday to bring awareness, and taking the opportunity to talk about safe and healthy relationships.
Threadgold encouraged anyone who may need help or are in a violent domestic relationship, there are different ways to get more information.
CHI is also hosting educational sessions on these topics to service groups, church groups, and more. You can contact Nicole Threadgold for more information at 701-652-7248.
