VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Yes, even in a pandemic the VCHS 9th-12th grade band and choir students will be selling fresh fruit for the 6th year in a row. This heart-healthy fundraiser helps students earn individual funds to attend Heritage Festival, a high school music competition. Every other year VCHS juniors and seniors represent our community at this competition. The junior and seniors will be attending this year due to the pandemic last year disrupting the trip.
The VCHS Music Booster parents are helping to coordinate this fundraiser. This year’s chair is Stephanie Kruta. The VCPS Music Boosters support this fundraiser because eating plenty of fruits and vegetables has health benefits such as a decreased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and some cancers.
Last year the VCHS students sold over 1520 boxes of fruit which arrived in early December. This year the students will be selling fruit from October 20 to November 10. The fruit will be delivered to you the last part of November or early December. This is the perfect time to enjoy some fresh delicious fruit from Texas, Washington, California and Florida.
The Music Boosters partner with Minn-Tex for this fundraiser. Minn-Tex is a family company based in Windom, Minnesota which has set the standard for fresh fruit fundraising for over 35 years. They provide a high-quality fruit at reasonable prices.
Many of the same options will be available this year although with the pandemic fewer options will be available. There is a slightly increased price for the fruit this year due to Hurricane Hanna that made landfall in Texas in July and shifting consumer habits to purchasing and eating more citrus fruits. You will still be able to enjoy the Texas Rio Star grapefruit, the Fancy California Navel orange, California clementine, and a variety of apples. The fruit will arrive in late November or early December, so it makes a great Christmas gift.
This year with the pandemic, there will also be an option for you to order online. Other changes due to the pandemic include: ensuring that the student has your contact phone number so they can deliver your fruit in a safe manner if someone in your house is quarantined, and ensuring social distancing when taking orders and delivering fruit.
Contact your favorite band or choir student to order your fruit, or receive a secure link to order the fruit, from October 20 to November 10. If you don’t know a student in band or choir, you can call the high school office at 845-0483, extension 2, to connect with a music booster parent so that you don’t miss out on this great opportunity.
Kruta said, “Let’s help the VCHS band and choir students earn their way to an amazing adventure while nourishing our bodies in a healthy way.”
