OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Tornadoes had a total of 17 aces and 26 kills to help them defeat the Carrington Cardinals Tuesday night 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-17). Oakes improves to 6-0 in District 5 play and 13-0 overall, Carrington drops to 3-1 in District 5 play and 7-4 overall.
In the first two sets, the Tornadoes controlled the pace for the most part and led for most of each set. The third set featured seven ties with Carrington leading at one point 7-4, but the Tornadoes came back to take the lead 16-14 and never looked back. Senior and four-year starter Sadie Hansen led the way for Oakes with nine aces and six kills, Junior Abigail Cox added six kills and Sophomore Emma Muggli had six kills as well. Carrington was led by Junior Sydnie Grager with four kills and two aces, Sophomore Mya Schroeder added four kills as well. The Cardinals were missing four starters for the second night in a row.
Next up for RV Carrington will be on Thursday in Carrington against the Wolves of Kidder County for a Region 3 contest. KDAK and newsdakota.com will have the coverage starting about 7pm.
