VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On a night when the Valley City Hi-Liners were honoring their seniors, it was two juniors from Fargo North that stole the night leading the Spartans to a 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-22, 25-15) win over the Hi-Liners Thursday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
In the first set, it was Fargo North’s from the beginning. The Spartans jumped out to a 14-4 lead and kept it at the 10-12 point range the entire set winning 25-15.
Set two was a bit more even. Neither team could get a big lead until North went on a 8-0 run to take a 19-12 lead. But the Hi-Liners had a better run in them. They would go on a 13-2 run to end the set with a 25-21 win.
The third set again was back a forth until North took a 19-12 lead. Once again, the Valley City had a run in them, going on a 9-2 run to tie it at 21. But this time, North thwarted the comeback bid taking four of the last five points to win the set 25-22.
The Spartans used that momentum in the fourth set to win 25-15.
Valley City was led by Jadyn Dieterle with 17 kills. Peyton Pederson had four. Dylann Diegel had 31 assists. Defensively, Jocey Kriewald led the way with 20 digs. Lexi Leroux had 17. Hailey Thoreso had four blocks and Faith Peterson added three.
Before the match, the Hi-Liners honored their seven seniors. Jadyn Dieterle, Lexi Leroux, Britta Roehrich, Olivia Olson, Hailey Thoreson, Jocey Kriewald and Adrian Grafing
Valley City is now 4-6 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 4-5 overall. Fargo North is now 5-8 in the EDC and 7-8 overall.
Both teams will be participating in the 2020 Scheels Invitational Tournament this weekend in Fargo. North will be hosting pool A with Aberdeen Central, Wahpeton and West Fargo Sheyenne. Valley City will be at Fargo Davies for pool E with Davies, Fargo Oak Grove and Grand Forks Red River. The tournament begins on Friday and will conclude on Saturday.
