VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State dropped the first set and then took the next three to defeat Waldorf University Friday, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19. The volleyball team also celebrated its seniors and parents with a small ceremony after the game.

Sophomore Caitlyn Fischbach led the Vikings with 10 kills and nine blocks en route to the home victory. Katie Juarez tallied 10 kills, 11 digs, and four blocks Friday, and Nissa Johnson added eight kills and four blocks.

Kallene Klever led the Viking defense with a game-high 17 digs and added a pair of service aces. Clarissa Hilary recorded 35 assists and nine digs for the Vikings.

Waldorf committed 31 attack errors and hit just .103 Friday night. Charlotte Wright led the Warriors with 14 kills, while Kenzie Kidd added 11 kills and 16 digs. Kaitlyn Bakke tallied a game-high 41 assists.

Valley City State improves to 3-6 overall and 2-0 in the NSAA. Waldorf falls to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

After a slow start and dropping the first set 25-18, the Vikings heated up and took the first four points of the second set. That would be the largest lead of the game though, as the two battled back and forth and remained tied at 23-23. A pair of Warrior errors locked in the Viking win, 25-23.

The third set was another battle as neither team led by more than three points through 19-19. A kill from Bailey Nelson sent the Vikings on a five-point rally to bring up set-point. A pair of Viking errors allowed the Warriors to make a small gain, but another Nelson kill gave the Vikings set three, 25-21.

The Vikings held onto their momentum through the fourth set taking an early 11-7 lead. A kill from Clarissa Hilary gave the Vikings the next six straight points to take their largest lead of the night at 17-7. WIth the Vikings leading by double figures again at 21-11, Waldorf started to inch their way back to get within five at 22-17. They couldn’t gain enough though as the Vikings took set four 25-19.
