JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – After a week filled with off-the-field distractions, the Jamestown Blue Jays (3-0) knocked off Legacy (1-2) 21-20 in comeback fashion.

It was a tale of two different halves. Legacy scored on their first two drives and led 14-0 in a hurry. A pair of short touchdown runs from Evan Hoffer and Lyric Hoffman put Legacy on the board.

On the other side of the ball, the Jays offense fumbled and punted and it looked like it could be a long Friday afternoon. Head Coach Bill Nelson on the resiliency of his squad.

His team was the definition of resilient Friday. The Jays dug themselves into a 20-0 in the second half but rattled off 21 unanswered points to complete the comeback on Senior Night. Three passing touchdowns from quarterback Ty Monson, a couple huge touchdown grabs by wide receiver Preston Kroeber, a huge 4th down conversion mustered up by tight end Keith Levin and enough plays on defense from a banged up defensive unit all combined for a miraculous 21-20 victory.

Here’s how the game-winning touchdown pass from Monson to Kroeber sounded on JIM 107.1

Despite an epic victory, Nelson knows his team is not satisfied.

For the first time since 2005, Jamestown High School Football is 3-0 to begin a season. With all three wins coming against West Region opponents (Dickinson, Minot, Legacy), Jamestown will shift the focus to non-conference opponent Valley City next week. The Hi-Liners come to town after Williston had to postpone the game due to positive COVID-19 cases on their team.
