VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Palmer Amaranth has been confirmed in Barnes, Cass & Stutsman counties. A total of 12 counties statewide have documented cases of the noxious weed.

NDSU Extension Educator Randy Grueneich said the confirmed case was reported in a feedlot in Barnes County. He said the noxious seeds were in feed screenings fed to cattle. He said farmers and ranchers are urged to work with your local weed officer or NDSU Extension educator to identify suspect Palmer Amaranth plants.

ND Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said farmers are encouraged to clean excess dirt and plant debris off equipment between fields to prevent the spread of this weed.
