CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – September is Library Card Sign-up month and the Carrington City Library is celebrating.
The campaign started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education William Bennett, who stated, “Let’s have a campaign. Every child should obtain a library card and use it.” Since then, every September has celebrated the library card and libraries nationwide have encouraged everyone to get their own.
Library Director Michelle Seil says for those who live outside of town, they’ll have an opportunity for them to get their library card as well.
In other library news, Seil says they have begun their pre-school program that welcomes in the pre-schoolers to work on literacy skills and pre-school readiness.
Friends of the Library will also be sponsoring the holding area at Junkfest in Carrington this Saturday. Patrons can make a donation to the library to hold their items while they continue shopping at the Foster County Fairgrounds. Seil says they’re also welcoming any new members to become Friends of the Library, a group whose purpose is the help the library with fundraising and advocacy.
