JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has approved a bid to move forward with the James River Phase 3 Riverbank Restoration Project.

Ben Aaseth with Interstate Engineering says they received five bids for the project, which were opened on Wednesday, September 2nd.

The bid for the project was in the amount of $853,907 and would be a 75% federal share and 25% local share.

Aaseth reported that a bid from RTS Shearing was not opened as it did not meet requirements. City Attorney Leo Ryan explained his recommendation to not open the bid.

After hearing from RTS Shearing representatives, the city voted to follow the recommendation of the city attorney. The bid for the project was unanimously approved to Park Construction.

In other city business, discussion was held regarding the purchase of a recycling vactor truck for the cost of $517,985.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated his concern for the amount the sewer department would have left for equipment replacement after purchasing the truck.

Councilmember Dave Steele stated that in the long term, the use of the vactor truck may save the city money.

The vactor truck would be used to reuse water already in the sewer for cleaning and would eliminate the use of clean water for cleaning sewer lines. The city unanimously approved to purchase the truck.
