JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County has seen an uptick in COVID-19 cases over the last week.
As of Wednesday, September 2nd, there was a total of 78 active COVID-19 cases, up from 20 active cases just one week ago. There’s been a total of 221 positive cases since the pandemic began in March.
Central Valley Health Unit Administrator Robin Iszler says there are a few factors as to why the active cases have risen in the last week.
Iszler says they’re seeing positives from those testing events, but added that the biggest area their seeing positive cases is between 15 to 49 years of age.
With more restrictions loosened up compared to earlier in the year, Iszler says that coupled with the beginning of school for both the schools in the county and University of Jamestown, the cases have gone up from there.
Iszler says common symptoms have been runny nose and headaches, but one of the more prominent telltale symptoms is the loss of taste and smell.
While those symptoms may not sound bad, Iszler says the biggest concern is the unknown ramifications the disease could cause in the future.
Iszler says remaining vigilant is the best way to ensure the spread is slowed or stopped so we can enjoy our events and activities.
Central Valley Health will be conducting weekly COVID-19 tests every Friday from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Civic Center Parking Lot. Those interested in getting tested are encouraged to register ahead at testreg.nd.gov.
