JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee has approved the development and implementation of a City Industrial Discharge Pretreatment Permitting and Compliance Program beginning in 2021.

Darrell Hournbuckle with Interstate Engineering says the project came about after the city received a letter from the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality.

Cavendish, Great River Energy, Newman Signs, and Collins Aerospace are all named as organizations that have discharges that could cause harm to the city’s wastewater system.

The program would be used to prevent damage to publicly owned treatment works in Jamestown. Karla Olson with Apex Engineering is working with Interstate Engineering on the project.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich brought up concerns of funding for the project, asking why the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) decided to put this issue to the city.

Hournbuckle informed the committee that they had conversations with the NDDEQ regarding that.

The cost to move forward with the project has been budgeted for June 2021. The committee unanimously approved.
