VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Women across the country are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment officially on August 26th.
Suffragette Elizabeth Preston Anderson of Tower City worked for 27 years to see the amendment ratified. Kay Kringlie said the persistence of Anderson and many others paid off.
A marker about Elizabeth Preston Anderson is on the south lawn of the Barnes County Courthouse in Valley City. Kringlie said a number of women were imprisoned for their conviction.
She talked about what happened to the women who took their protest to the steps of the White House.
A display about the women’s right to vote movement will soon be in Valley City at the Barnes County Museum titled “Rightfully Her’s”. For more details about the display call Wes Anderson at 701-845-0966.
