David (Dave) Allan Vareberg, of Valley City, ND, passed away August 25, 2020 at the age of 72. He died peacefully during his sleep at the Veteran’s Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Dave was born February 25, 1948 in Mayville, ND, the third of five children to Ordean and Ethelyn (Simley) Vareberg. Dave attended high school in Finley, ND. After graduating in 1966, Dave joined the US Army and was stationed in Fort Bliss, TX, Fort Polk, LA, Vietnam, and Fort Campbell, KY. He proudly served as a machine gunner in Vietnam and was honorably discharged July 1968. Dave’s military service continued to be a source of pride throughout his life.

In April 1971, Dave married Joan Brossart, and together, they had two children, Jovone and Nathan. Their family lived in the small town of Rogers, ND, where Dave started and coached men’s and women’s softball teams, founded the Rogers Gun Club, and eventually served as mayor.
Dave married Shelley Rosene in May 1987; their family, including two children, Kaylee and Kyle, lived in Valley City, where Dave took a job at Cenex. He spent over 40 years working in the fertilizer and chemical business in Barnes County. Dave remained in this position until retirement, not a day past his 62nd birthday in 2010.

After retirement, Dave kept himself busy discovering new hobbies and joining committees. Dave spent much of his retirement in service of veterans, including membership with the Amvets, American Legion, VFW, and Purple Hearts of Sioux Falls, SD. His service culminated when he served as the North Dakota District DAV Commander in 2015. Those who knew Dave knew him for his passions: fighting for Veterans, gardening, golfing, cards, the MN Twins/Vikings, and his grand kids.

Dave is survived by his wife: Shelley; children: Jovone (Phil) Seefeldt (Barnesville, MN), Nathan Vareberg (Fargo, ND), Kaylee Vareberg (Krista Johnson) (Valley City, ND), Kyle Vareberg (Colt Nicholson) (Fargo, ND); three grandchildren: Sierra, McKenna, and Tanner Seefeldt; siblings: Donald (Renee) Vareberg, Myron (Elaine) Vareberg, and Janice Young; two brothers-in-law: Bryce (Linda) Rosene, and Rod (Bonnie) Rosene; and several nieces and nephews.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Ordean and Ethelyn Vareberg, mother-in-law, Merry Rosene, brother, Robert, brother-in-law, Ray Young, and siblings-in-law, Virgil and Elaine Erdelt.
