VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The following is a news release from Mary Lee Nielson with the Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway.
“Sheyenne RiverFest week is over! We had many new kayakers and canoers from all over the state and from Minnesota. It was an event with many “firsts”. First time you could register online, first time the event was run for a week, first time to try out the new sites at the Sheyenne National Grasslands, and the first time there were maps of the launch and landing spots available online and hard copy. The maps are still at www.hellovalley.com
Since the event ran over a week it was impossible to count all the paddlers because there wasn’t registration at all sites like last year’s one day event. Estimates from all the sites came in at over 150. We received many pictures to help us advertise the Sheyenne River Trail that is being developed from Bald Hill Dam to the Sheyenne National Grasslands. Proceeds from registration and raffle ticket sales for the event will go to fund next year’s Sheyenne RiverFest and to begin funding the new water trail.
Sheyenne RiverFest is made possible by terrific sponsors. Our major sponsors were the Valley City Convention and Vistors Bureau, Dacotah Bank, Farmer’s Union Insurance, Moore Engineering and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
