JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Cancer Support Group (JCSG) has been helping area cancer patients by providing them gas cards for travel since 2009.
Previously known as Help for Hope & Healing, the non-profit raises money to purchase gas cards as area cancer patients travel for cancer treatments and consultations.
JCSG Board Member Beth Dewald says the grass-roots group came together after President Laurel Haroldson lost her husband Tom to cancer.
Since 2009, the organization has given 398 gas cards and spent over $55,000. Since January this year, they have distributed 34 cards valued at $150 a piece.
With the pandemic, Dewald says fundraising efforts for the organization have been affected, causing them to indefinitely postpone their popular Quarter Craze.
To ensure the cards are given to those who need them, referrals from various cancer centers like Roger Maris Cancer Center, the local Jamestown Regional Medical Center and family members and friends of those receiving cancer treatment are accepted.
The organization serves Stutsman, Dickey, Foster, Barnes, LaMoure, and Eddy Counties.
Dewald adds that they have also raised over $4,000 for their mission by selling face masks at Babb’s Coffee House made by Board Member Kim Weyer. Other board members include Lucy Bardell, Tanea Clocksene, Mary Engels, Laurel Haroldson, Mary Klundt, Kathy Schilling, Carol Stahlhut, Barb Togstad, and, Sandy Wilhelm.
If you would like to help the organization, mail checks to Jamestown Cancer Support Group at PO Box 1756 Jamestown or to the PayPal account on Facebook page called Jamestown Cancer Support Group.
