MINOT, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – Less than a week after LaMoure Babe Ruth won a state title, the LaMoure Independent team started a quest for their own championship with a 6-3 win over Hazen Friday afternoon.
It was far from a clean win for the LaMoure squad. They left eight runners on base and committed five errors in the field but did enough to work around the miscues.
Hazen scored first in the 3rd inning. A pair of two out walks was followed up by an RBI single from pitcher Landen Sayler. A bad throw from Hanson followed on the play and Hazen scored its second run on an error to make it 2-0.
After allowing a pair of runs to score, the LaMoure lineup came out firing on all cylinders in the bottom of the 3rd. Five straight hits put a jolt into the lineup to make it 4-2. An RBI double from Corban Potts, a two run triple from Mac Bierman and an RBI single from Landon Piehl resulted in a four spot in the 3rd inning.
It wasn’t a stress-free day for LaMoure’s starter Bierman. His defense made it more of a challenge as they committed five errors and committed errors in four of the first six innings.
But Bierman was up to the challenge. He gave up just one earned runs on a pair hits and three walks while striking out ten Hazen batters. Bierman went 5.1 innings and then gave way for Rory Gentzkow to close the game out. Gentzkow worked around a walk and two hits over his 1.2 innings, gave up a run, but closed the door with the tying run on deck in the 7th inning.
LaMoure will play Saturday evening at 5:30 against the winner between Thompson and Renville County. All LaMoure games can be found on KDDR am1220, FM 95.9, Thunder Country 98.3 and newsdakota.com.
