JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The return of the popular James River Exotic Animal Sale will be this Sunday at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds.

After just one year, event co-organizer Alisa Foerderer says the sale has possibly grown to already be the second biggest exotic animal sale in the Midwest.

“[Our] family has been in the animal business all their lives raising horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and small animals,” Alisa stated. “[We] have always enjoyed attending animal sales and decided in 2019 to put together one of our own.”

Along with her husband Joel and their children Shania, Roper, Jaeden, and Avery along with Lonny and Tammy Reuer of Reuer Auction Service, the event plans to continue their established first year success.

“Our May 2019 sale was a huge success with a large amount of unexpected animal consignments as well as great support from buyers and many spectators,” Foerderer stated. “This year, we are anticipating another huge sale with many pre-consignments already of exotic poultry, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, peacocks, quail, pheasants, rabbits, goats, sheep, llamas, miniature cattle, zebu cattle, highlander cattle, longhorn cattle, horses, ponies, and donkeys.”

Foerderer added that they feel the sale is essential for hobby farm enthusiasts just as cattle sales are essential for ranchers.

“People need a place to sell and disperse their excess animals,” Foerderer explains. “We fully expect an excellent sellers market as well as a wide variety of animals available for our buyers.”

Foerderer says they are also advising their sale attendees that they are attending the event at their own risk due to COVID-19 and ask that they take their own precautions to protect themselves and others.

Hand sanitizing stations will be available as well as free masks from their office trailer. They have also taken precautions to spread out all of the animals due to the large amount of consignments.

“We are looking forward to another successful sale and hope to continue to grow. This sale is a great event for the city of Jamestown as it draws in people and revenue,” Foerder stated.

The cost to get in the gate is $5 for ages 7 and up. The event begins Sunday, August 9th at 11 AM.
