VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – Another pitchers duel at the State Senior Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament in Valley City. This one came down to the last out as Valley City slipped past the Bismarck Caps 2-1 to move on to a match up with the West Fargo Vets.

Mitchell Taylor scattered five hits over seven innings with a walk and two strikeouts. The lone run came with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The third out was made with they tying run at third.

For the second night in a row, Valley City scored first in the first inning. Avery Bennefeld singled to start the game. Easton Hesch bunted him over to second base. After Jacob Johnson struck out, Grady Karges singled to move Bennefeld to third. Karges tried stealing second, when the throw from the catcher sailed in to center field, Bennefeld came in to score to make it 1-0.

Taylor would help his cause with an rbi single in the fourth to make it 2-0. But the Caps would get a run in the bottom of the seventh with a groundout.

Taylor went seven innings. He allowed five hits, one earned run with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Royals improve to 23-12 on the year and will play the West Fargo Vets for a sixth time this year. Gametime will be at 5pm with the pregame at 4:45 on AM 1490/ 96.3 KOVC and video streamed live at newsdakota.com.

Elsewhere on Wednesday:

Fargo lost an 8-5 decision to West Fargo in a winners bracket game. The Bismarck Reps downed Minot 6-4 sending the Metros home.
