LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Day two consisted of two elimination games and a game with a trip to the District Championship game on the line.
Here are the results from day 2:
Game 1: F/H/L 3, Enderlin 1
Game 1 featured a pitching performance that will be difficult to top this week. To say F/H/L’s starter Broden Frolek was dealing may be an understatement. Frolek suffocated Enderlin’s lineup with 16 strikeouts and and gave up just two hits and the one earned run.
Enderlin’s starter was solid as well. Garret Hansen gave up three runs scattered over six innings. The best threat F/H/L put together against Hansen was in the 2nd inning when the loaded the bases with zero outs. Matt Heley grounded out to score a run, but thanks to an out on the base path, Hansen struck out Noah Falk to escape with just the one run in.
No matter though, as F/H/L scored two more times on RBI singles from Hayden Boll and Preston Bohnenstingl to take the elimination game 3-1.
Game 2: Lisbon 3, Linton-Wishek 1
Linton-Wishek (L-W) struck for a run in the first inning courtesy of an error, but that was it for the remainder of the game. After the first inning, Lisbon starting pitcher Simon Sveum quieted the L-W lineup to zero runs on four hits. Sveum also struck six batters on his way to a complete game victory.
Lisbon’s lineup took advantage of some defensive miscues to score their three runs for the day. In the first inning, Lisbon scored twice on a couple drop third strikes followed by a run scoring ground out off the bat of Caleb Olson. Later in the game, Avery Dick added another run on another RBI ground out. Three runs on three hits were enough for Lisbon.
Game 3: LaMoure 3, Oakes 2
The last two meetings between LaMoure and Oakes have come down to the last at bat.
Just like last time LaMoure pulled off the win Tuesday night.
Jace Hanson turned in six brilliant innings against the Oakes lineup before running into trouble in the 7th. Hanson didn’t allow a run and didn’t even allow a base runner to reach third base before the 7th inning, but then Oakes took advantage of a couple walks and a hit batter when Garret Meehl delivered a game-tying two run single.
Meehl, who started the game on the mound for Oakes, was pulled in the 6th inning after issuing a couple of walks. After his big time base knock, Meehl went back to the mound and issued a walk to Corban Potts to begin the 7th inning. He got the next batter to line out sharply to short, but the action didn’t pause there. After catching the liner, Howie Neustel, trying to double up Potts at first, threw the ball out of play.
After the dust settled, LaMoure had the winning run at third base with Landon Piehl at the plate, and after a couple pitches Piehl rifled the game winning single down the left field line to advance to the championship game Thursday.
