VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Ten seniors played their last regular season game at Charlie Brown Field Thursday night as the Valley City Royals took home a 6-2 win over Casselton in the East Region finale.

The Royals broke open a one run game with four runs in the fifth. Jacob Johnson’s two run single started the scoring in the inning. Grady Karges brought him in with a single to make it 5-1. Alex Thornton’s rbi single plated Karges with the final run of the inning.

Casselton got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. Will Ellison stole home to give the Haymakers a 1-0 lead.

Valley City would tie it at 1 when Avery Bennefeld scored on an error in the bottom half of the first. The Royals took the lead when Corey Nelson scored on an error in the bottom of the third.

After Valley City’s big inning, Casselton would get one back in the sixth on Km Parker’s rbi single.

With the win the Royals finished 15-5 in the East Region and are 20-11 overall. The will start post season play next Tuesday at the East Region Tournament in Fargo as the number two seed.

The Fargo Astros and Kindred will play a play-in game on Saturday to determine who will play Valley City on Tuesday.
