STEELE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -Day one is in the books for the 2020 District 6 Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament being held at Pirate Field in the KC Sports Complex in Steele. To say the least it was an interesting day one, which did not get fully completed.

GAME 1: #1 Valley City 16, #8 Ashley 1 F/4

Valley City scored in all three innings and had 15 hits on the way to a big win over Ashley in the openinG game.

Nine different players had at least one hit, and scored at least one run. Eight different batters drove in at least one run.

Leading the way for the Kings was Espen Kunze with three hits, a run scored and four rbi. Ethan Miller, Gavin Gerhardt, Broden Muske, and Carver Pederson all had two hits. Zachary Sykora, Robert Fischer, Max Mehus and Isaiah Schuldheisz all had one hit. Gerhardt, Muske and Sykora scored three times each Ethan Miller scored once.

Kai Kringlie and Isaiah Schuldheisz combined on a one hitter. Kringlie did not allow a hit and on earned run in two innings. He walked three and struck out four. Isaiah Schuldheisz allowed one hit in two innings. He did not walk and a batter and fanned three.

GAME 2: #5 Oakes 2, #4 Steele 1

The best game of the day was game two between Oakes and Steele. Oakes scored on Brogan Roney’s two-run single in the fourth, breaking a 0-0 tie.

Steele made thing interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning. Grant Pfaff walked with the bases loaded scoring Connor Wolfe to make it 2-1 with one out. Then with the bases loaded, Blake Braun struck out to end the game.

Jace Larson had two of the four hits for Steele. Braun and Isaiah Oster had the other hits.

Blayson Dolney and Roney had the two hits for Oakes. Joey Heim pitched five innings one-hit shutout ball to get the win. He walked two and struck out seven.

Blake Braun allowed two hits and two runs in five innings. He walked four and struck out 12.

GAME 3: #3 Carrington 12, #6 Linton/Wishek 2, 6 innings

The Rattlers scored two runs in the top of second inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Redbirds, but it was all Carrington after that as they scored 11 unanswered runs to complete the victory in six innings, winning by 10-run rule.
Kael Kovar was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Carrington Redbirds and also picked up the win on the mound. Connor Kosiak was 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles for the Rattlers and suffered the loss.
GAME 4 #2 Lamoure 13, #7 Ellendale 0, 5 innings
The A’s had a big third inning scoring 11 runs including a 2-run homerun off the bat of Corbin Potts as the four time defending District 6 champs roll past Ellendale by 10-run rule in the fourth game of the day.
Potts also had a single and ended with two RBI total and scored twice. Starting pitcher Connor Johnson and reliever Max Musland combined for a 1-hit shutout of Ellendale.
Johnson at the plate had a single and a triple, three RBI and scored once. Riley Thorpe got the only hit for Ellendale, a single in the top of the fourth inning.
