This year’s event will feature live music on every corner of the route! “We have all heard the saying, music is good for the soul,” states Sharon Buhr, licensed registered dietitian and chair of the ON THE MOVE Partnership, “but it turns out it is also good for our health!” Buhr continues, “Research has shown that music has a positive effect on both our physical and psychological health and the COVID pandemic has been a difficult time for our community. It’s important to get out and have some fun even in the midst of the pandemic.”

Local musicians include Christopher Redfearn with his African drum, the “djene”, Sheila Zinke and her son Tommy Zinke will play acoustic guitar, students from Micaiah’s Studio of Ballet will play ukuele, Theo Herzog, VCHS state music winner will be on drums, Joe Demasi will play guitar, Mikey Meester and Eric Johnson will sing and play piano, Al Adams will play accordion, Ken Jimenez will play trumpet and you can also enjoy live DJ music by Paul Leier.

“Walking is powerful medicine for our body and our mind! The Let’s Walk Valley City event gives us the opportunity to enjoy local musical talents as well as to walk up to 1 ½ miles by following the entire path,” states Andrea Winter, licensed registered dietitian and ON THE MOVE Coordinator at City County Health District. “Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce the risks of developing many types of chronic disease such as hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and many forms of cancer; and walking can help us keep a healthy weight and reduce stress and anxiety. Exercise is also one natural way to keep your immune system strong,” continues Winter.

The event is funded by a grant that City County Health District received from the Health Resources Service Administration (HRSA) to promote physical activity and healthy eating.

City County Health District encourages everyone to remember social distancing during the event. There will be hand sanitizer available at all food tables along the route.
