JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Nine pointed star medallions have been popping up nationwide since 2010, and yet no one knows where they come from.

2¾ inches in diameter, these medallions have been reportedly found all over the U.S. either glued, cemented, riveted, embedded, or pounded into sidewalks outside of libraries and small businesses.

Jamestown Downtown Association President Lynn Lambrecht was helping water flowers when she came across a mysterious medallion embedded on the sidewalk.

In visiting the website, Lambrecht discovered that more than 130 medallions have been reported in every single state. Jamestown’s is now the fourth one discovered in North Dakota, joining Bowbells, Dickinson, and Watford City.

Lambrecht says she has visited the website, reported the medallion, and did some research.

In visiting the website imprinted on the medallion, it’s reported that the first medallion was found in 2010, the year imprinted on the one found in Jamestown.

“The short answer is that I have no idea,” Kelly Booth says on the site. “You see, whatever’s going on here, it’s not my project. I swear. Nor have I heard from anyone claiming it’s theirs. In fact I never even imagined such things existed until you guys started emailing.”

Booth adds there are numerous interpretations she and others have come up with to determine where these medallions come from. Everything from a prank to aliens.

“Truth be told though, I like them, whatever they’re for,” Booth claims. “After all, I’m an artist who’s inspired both by notions of place and by the fantastical things that can happen in real life. To unwittingly find myself playing a central role in a map-sized mystery is, let’s face it, pretty fantastical.”
