JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Tourism Grant Executive Committee met and discussed different projects proposed at the Frontier Village.

A liability survey was conducted on June 4th at the Frontier Village to offer recommendations and identify hazards and actions that could be taken to address them.

Some hazards identified include the deck behind the log restrooms and general store, fuse box in the log restroom, electrical box in the depot with no cover, the slide in the playground area, and exposed concrete under the spring rockers.

In a compiled list, it’s estimated around $10,700 would be needed to help address as much as possible. Swedlund says there are many other issues at the Frontier Village and creating an expense around something that would have to be replaced would be “working backwards.”

Swedlund says replacing and repairing makes sense at this point in time with the future of the Frontier Village unknown right now.

Another item the Frontier Village needed to address was power washing, prepping, priming, and painting the buildings.

The cost to do all buildings at the Frontier Village would run around approximately $52,580. Swedlund says addressing at least one of the buildings would be their best move at this time.

Concerns were raised by the committee on putting money into buildings with the future of the Frontier Village unknown at this time. Swedlund stated that the historic buildings weren’t going anywhere soon.

After discussion, Swedlund asked if some dollars could be used to hire someone to go through the facility to explore the needs of the buildings at the site. The committee recommended and approved $5,000 for that work.
