VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Kings scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back on the way to an 18-12 win over Carrington in Babe Ruth baseball Tuesday afternoon at Charlie Brown Field.
Carrington got the offensive show started with two runs in the top of the first on Jack Erickson’s two run double with the bases loaded. Corbin Clifton was thrown out trying to score.
Valley City’s big inning started out with an error, wild pitch, stolen base and a ground out to score the first run. After that, seven straight batters reached base. Owen Struble’s two run double highlighted the big inning. Gavin Gerhardt drove in two with a ground out and a single. Robert Fischer, Isaiah Schuldheisz, and Carver Pederson all drove in runs in the inning.
The Redbirds would get four back in the second. Grady Shipman had a bases loaded walk to bring in one run and Jacob Page had and rbi ground out. Corbin Clifton brought in a run on a fielder’s choice and one scored on an error.
Valley City would add one in the second and two more in the third to take a 11-6 lead.
Carrington would get to with two again with three in the fourth. A double by Hudson Smith brought in one and Kyle Johnson added a run on an rbi single and one scored on an error.
But Valley City get three more in the bottom of the inning, Robert Fischer’s rbi double brought in one. He would score on the front end of a double steal with Isaiah Schulheisz. Schuldheisz would then score on a wild pitch.
Espen Kunze had a two run triple in the sixth to highlight a four run inning for Valley City. Struble and Ethan Miller would both have rbi singles in the inning.
Carrington would make things interesting with three in the top of the seventh. Jack Erickson had a bases loaded hit by pitch. Trent Ekren had an rbi single and a run came in on an error.
Seven different players had one hit for the Redbirds. Jack Erickson had three rbi and Hudson Schmitz scored twice.
Owen Struble led Valley City with three hits, three runs scored and three rbi. Broden Muske had three hits. Robert Fischer had two hits, scored three runs, and drove in two. Gavin Gerhardt drove in two and had two hits. Isaiah Schuldheisz scored three times and Espen Kunze had two rbi. All total, nine different players scored a run, eight drove in run and seven had at least one hit for Valley City.
