Edwin Whitcomb, age 73, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, July 10th at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, ND. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 17th at the Valley City Eagles Club in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the Eagles on Friday afternoon. Inurnment will be in Woodbine Cemetery.
Edwin Clarence Whitcomb, the son of Sheldon and Alma (McCann) Whitcomb, was born September 25, 1946 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. At the age of 8, he and his family moved to Eckelson, ND where he grew up and attended school. After receiving his education, Edwin began a lifelong career as a truck driver. He began driving for Geisler Implement for a time and then drove for Beyer Cement that later became LaFarge for 40 years. In 1968 he married Betty Selleck in Valley City. Edwin loved to be outdoors in the summer doing yardwork, gardening and planting flowers. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed camping, dancing, spicy food and a cold beverage.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty, Valley City, ND; two daughters, Angela (Bob) Collins, Horace, ND and Tammy Whitcomb, Valley City, ND; his cat Willow.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Susan Lindvall and Peggy Reisenauer and one nephew, Timothy Lindvall.
