Game #7: Thief River Falls 5, LaMoure 3

LaMoure jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Corbin Potts continued his rbi streak with a single to bring in Alex Klever who led off the inning with a hit, a stolen base, then went to third on a wild pitch. In between the two hits, Jace Hanson singled and stole second. But when he tried to score on Potts’ single, Bandits left fielder J.J. Jimenez threw him out at the plate.

Anthony Hanson would make that lead stick until the fifth when he ran into some control problems and the defense made one miscue.

Jimenez tried to sacrifice Gannon Kempert to second, the throw from third was low and could not be handled making everyone safe  with no out. With one out. Aaron Bruggeman beat out a bunt to load the bases. Then three walks, a hi batter and a fielder’s choice produced four runs for the Bandits to take the lead.

LaMoure got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth when Anthony Hanson shot off the third baseman’s knee caromed into short left field, both Mac Bierman and Landon Piehl came intoscore to cut the lead to 4-3.

But Thief River Falls would get an insurance run in the seventh when Zack Westlund would drive in Grant Hatman who had walked and stole second.

Hartman got the win in relief for the Bandits. The left hander went six innings, allowed four hits, two unearned runs with three strikeouts.

Anthony Hanson allowed just two hits in six innings. All four runs were unearned but he walked four, hit three and struck out seven.

LaMoure will play Dickinson in the 5th place game on Sunday at 10am. Dickinson lost to Fergus Falls Saturday 10-0

Game #9: Jamestown 8, Thief River Falls 5

All the scoring was done by both teams in the first and the fourth innings in the first semifinal of the day.

Thief River Falls scored in the top of the first on Grant Hartman drove in Keadon Kempert, led off the game with a double, on a sacrifice fly.

Jamestown came back in the bottom of the first and tied the game on Max Anderson’s fielder’s choice.

The Bandits would take a 5-1 lead with a four spot in the top of the fourth. With one out, five straight batters reached base, four hits and a walk. That produced three runs. Gunnar Zutz had an rbi single. Riley Mandarude had an rbi single and a run scored on a balk. JJ Jimenez capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

But Jamestown came back with a huge two out rally in the bottom of the inning. With Jacoby Nold at first and two out, Nolan Nenow doubled to left center chasing Nold to third. Michael Mahoney struckout, but the ball got away from the catcher allowing Mahoney to reach and Nold to score to make it 5-2. Isaac Mimong was hit to load the bases. Jeremy Williams was hit two pitches later to bring in Nenow. The Bandits lead is now 5-3 with the bases still loaded. Mason Lunzman would single to center to bring in Mahoney and courtesy runner Max Fronk to tie the game at 5.

Tommy Falk broke the tie with a bloop single to left to score Williams to make it 6-5. Max Anderson, who started the inning with a ground out, to left center to score Lunzman and Falk for the final tally.

Williams had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Lunzman had two rbi and Anderson drove in three.

Nenow got the win going four innings and allowing six hits and five runs, four earned. Lunzman got the save pitching three innings of two-hit, shutout relief.

Jamestown will now play Gillette, Wyoming in the championship Sunday afternoon at 2pm while the Bandits will meet Fergus Falls. Gillette beat Fergus Falls 10-0 in the other semifinal. Jamestown’s game can be heard on Jamestown 107.1 and video streamed live at newsdakota.com
