JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Flea beetles that eat leafy spurge are available in Stutsman County.

Field days won’t be held in Stutsman County this year, but the beatles are still available for distribution. The beetles eat leafy spurge, a noxious weed that can cause damage to cropland and pastures in the state.

“Leafy spurge continues to be one of North Dakota’s most difficult-to-control noxious weeds,” Goehring said. “Using the flea beetles for biological control, as part of an integrated pest management plan, has proven to be an effective tool in combatting leafy spurge infestations.”

Field days are still planned in several counties including Billings, Grant, Benson, Morton, and Stark.

A public event is not scheduled this year, but those looking to acquire beetles can contact Stutsman County Weed Control Officer Ron Manson at 701-320-4512.
