JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department is urging the public to lock their car doors.

The department has recently received an uptick in theft reports from vehicles in the community. Major Justin Blinsky says in most cases, the cars have been left unlocked.

Major Blinsky says this “crime of opportunity” is avoidable if you take some quick steps.

Major Blinsky added that they currently have an investigative lead on a suspect involving at least 2 to 3 of the recent car break-ins.

“The suspect has not been formally charged yet and is not in custody, but we are still working through some investigative tips and will be contacting some of the victims who have already reported property missing, to see if they can identify any belongings we have recovered yet.”

If you have property or valuables missing from your vehicle, you’re encouraged to make a report to the Jamestown Police Department at 701-252-1000.
