JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Amateur radio operators in Jamestown will be welcoming in the public to their Field Day on June 27th & 28th.
The local event is part of the nationwide Amateur Radio Field Day.
Tom Simpson is the Vice President of the Jamestown Amateur Radio Club and a licensed radio operator.
Also known as ham radio, amateur radio has been around since 1933. It’s used for non-commercial exchange of messages, recreation, radiosport, emergency communication, and more.
For Simpson, it’s about connecting with others around the world.
Field Day is held to demonstrate ham radio’s ability. More than 35,000 people from thousands of locations participated in 2019, including amateur radio enthusiasts locally. The June event combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event.
Simpson says their setup on Saturday and Sunday will be open to the public to see.
Field Day in Jamestown will be setup at Joos Grove at 8312-8340 32nd St SE on Saturday, June 27th and will operate for the following 24 hours. The event is free and open to the public.
